A baker and a farmer lived in the countryside. Both of them produced and sold their products to each other daily.

The baker sold a half kilogram of his bread to the farmer, and the farmer sold the same quantity of butter to the baker.

One morning, the baker got suspicious about the quantity of butter sold by the farmer. He weighed it. Truly, the butter was less than half a kg.

Knowing that the farmer had cheated him, he got furious.

So, he filed a case and dragged the farmer to court.

On the day of the trial, the judge asked the farmer how he weighed the butter.

The farmer replied — “My Lord, I am an uneducated farmer. I don’t know accurate measurements. I use a very traditional way to measure it.”

When the judge asked for more clarification, he said — “It’s been a long time since this baker began buying butter with me. And since then, I have also bought a half kg of bread from him.”

“Every day when he brings me half kg of bread, I put that bread in one arm of the scale, and measure an equal amount of butter for him.”

“I have never cheated on it, my lord! If there is any mistake, it is from the baker…
